Dr Nishi Chawla is the third Indian poet ever to be interviewed for the Library of Congress sponsored ‘Poet and Poem’ program.
She is also among the very few Indian playwrights to have a play staged in an Off Broadway production in New York.
Nishi Chawla is an academician, a writer, and now a filmmaker. She has seven collections of poetry, ten plays, four feature length movies, and two novels, to her credit. She has also co edited two anthologies of poems, "Singing in the Dark," and "Greening the Earth," published by Penguin Random House.
Nishi Chawla holds a Ph. D. in English from The George Washington University, Washington, D.C. USA. She has also done a two year post doctoral research study at the Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, Md. After teaching for nearly twenty years as a tenured Professor of English at Delhi University, India, she had migrated with her family to a suburb of Washington D.C. She has taught at the University of Maryland from 1999 until 2014. She has recently retired from the faculty of Thomas Edison State University, New Jersey, USA.
Nishi Chawla's plays get staged both in USA and in India.
Nishi Chawla has also written and directed four independent art house movies titled, “Mixed Up,” The Strange Case Of Normalcy,” “TechNous" and "The Peace Activists." The first three movies are streaming on Amazon Prime.
